Great way to "jump-start" meaningful conversations with your kids

Great book. I've only had it for two weeks and it's already turned into a reference that's sitting out in our living room. The easy-to-scan table-of-contents and simple chapter headings ("Humility," "Empathy," "Being Proactive," "Bravery & Strength," etc) make it easy for me to quickly grab a quote before dinner that's relevant to the day's events, then discuss that quote with my children over our meal. We've had lots of good discussions - and I was also surprised by the interesting dynamic of watching my kids discuss the quotes among themselves.

Overall a very, very useful book that fantastic for quickly diving into a meaningful conversation with your kids

Inspiring for kids AND adults

Thought this book would be great, and originally bought it for my 13 year old son - but my 10 year old daughter grabbed it first and read it cover to cover in one sitting. She put it down and said, "this is awesome! can i read it again?"
Totally recommend for kids and adults. I love how the quotes are categorized. Even used a couple in the office to inspire staff and co-workers.

So happy I was told about this book by one of my fifth grade students. I bought two copies for my own two elementary school age daughters. What a terrific way to promote positivity in their lives. I also will be using with my students. I think that it is easy these days to forget how important a positive outlook is and this book certainly helps bring that right back!

I got the job!!!

I'll start with a little bit about me. I've always had problems going to job interviews and staying composed. Literally the entire time before the interview I sit there and psych myself out which turns me into a nervous wreck. This ends up making me perform terribly at the interview itself and I end up not getting the job. So I bought this book.

This book gave me exactly what I needed to know. It gave me enough forsight to be able to walk into my interview with confidence like I've never had before! It taught me how to flip the interview around so that I had control and could decide the direction the interview was going rather than my prospective employer scrutinizing me like what usually happens. Overall its a great book and you should buy it today if you are going to an interview soon!

This will definitely help

I found this book absolutely helpful. This provides excellent tips in making every interview a success. There are tons of ways to have confidence during your interview. This book also highlights that in the interview process you can also ask questions and and you can take different approaches. After reading this book, I feel much more informed on this topic and I am confident that I will be able to do much better during any interviews I have in the future. If you're looking for a book that is short, effective and makes sense, you have to read this book, this will definitely help.

I Am Prepared!

Steve Williams really knows what he is talking about. You can tell as you are reading the book that he is speaking from personal experience. That's something you can't just make up. While reading the book it feels almost as if he is guiding you through everything step by step rather than just being handed a bunch of information that you have to figure out and sort out by yourself.

My favorite part of the book was the chapter on turning the interview around and using your previous employment as leverage. He really made me think about that whole part of interviewing differently. With the knowledge I've gained from this I'm sure I will rock the next interview I go to!

Reading this is literally like a nightmare.

I don't know how to review this! What a pain this was to read for contracts, which is challenging enough as it is! The language is terrible and beyond confusing. Even my contracts professor who identifies as a contract scholar who has clerked for Posner says these are written poorly for their purpose.

Like I said, I don't know how this is to be reviewed. It's not as if I had a choice in buying this text for enjoyment. I had to buy it and I had to read it, whether I liked it or not. If you're looking for something to supplement your understanding of contracts I wouldn't recommend this unless you have legal experience. Or love to read extremely complicated texts. For for the poor souls in law school, this is a must for contracts class.

Great supplement for a basic Contracts Course. Not for advanced contract classes!

Good for a comprehensive study of Restatement & UCC Article 2. However, it is not as helpful for the study of other UCC sections such as secured transactions and payment systems as these sections are significantly redacted in this book. I attempted to use it for my negotiable instruments/payment systems and secured transactions classes and found that is was missing many essential code sections in Article 9 and Articles 3.

Didn't open the book.

I never even took the shrink wrap off this book. I didn't need to. I was able to use WestLaw to look up the Restatment provisions and UCC during class. I didn't have to spend time flipping through the book during class or the final. I had all the needed provisions copied and pasted into my outline. Not sure why this was listed as required purchase for my class.

Great book to read & teach your toddler!

I consider myself still learning Turkish. So when I bought this book I hoped it would be a good tool to brush up & expand my vocabulary while teaching my toddler her father's native tongue!
The translation to Turkish is a bit off on some sentences, but it all essentially means the same thing. It really depends on where the translator grew up in Turkey, because my husband will translate the English a bit differently. I still find it very helpful and fun to teach it to my toddler!
I find it super cute! The illustrations are simple & sweet - we point at & name each object on the pages. And my toddler loves babies and points at every one of babies on each page!

Yes, this book is paperback. So be observant if your toddler wants to read it themselves, they can/will rip the pages.
Considering ordering another one to send my sister in law to teach her kids english.

First, no where in the description Of this does it mention that it is paper, not a board book or at all good more a baby/toddler. Also, the last page of the book asks the reader to review the book. I think that is very tacky.

The second edition of Globalization & Media is an outstanding, readable, and interesting text for international communications courses. Last spring I looked for a new text for my university Global Media Systems course. So many texts in the field are hundreds of pages, uninteresting, and unorganized. Lule's text was a big hit---for the professor and the students. Within the manageable 191 pages, Lule focuses on the importance of media's role in political globalization, cultural globalization, and economic globalization. Have media and globalization produced the "Global Village" envisioned by Marshal McLuhan or the "Global Village of Babel," as predicted by Lewis Mumford? The question makes for interesting class discussions.

This is required reading for a college Global Media course. It is really well written and the author is easy to follow. He is definitely knowledgeable and knows how to write in a way to keep his audience interested. I am actually reading ahead because I am enjoying the book so much.

"Taking a deep look at the fighting that took place in Georgia and Tajikistan in the early 1990s after the Soviet Union disbanded, Driscoll questions many of the core assumptions scholars make in the literature on international peacekeeping. Jesse Driscoll is Assistant Professor of Political Science at the School of International Relations and Pacific Studies, University of California, San Diego. He was an OCV fellow at Yale University and a GAGE fellow at the University of Virginia, and most recently a member of the Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies from 2009-13. His work has been published in the Journal of Conflict Resolution, Research and Politics, and the Journal of Survey Statistics and Methodology.

Fascinating insights into state collapse and reconstitution

(Full disclosure: the author of this book was one of my recent professors and I was exposed to some of the ideas in his book during class, even if I didn't always understand them. Nevertheless, I have tried to give this book as objective a review as possible.)

The collapse of the Soviet Union and the creation of new nations along the Russian periphery from the ashes was both greatly consequential and surprisingly nonviolent. In fact, as the author of this book points out in the first few pages, the average length of civil war for these new nations lasted less than four years and cost only 500,000 lives, which is incredibly short and bloodless compared to the average 10 years it takes modern civil wars to resolve themselves. Why did this happen? In this fine academic book, Mr. Driscoll lays out a theory of how warlords engaged in coalition politics in these nations to bring about a speedy resolution. The main theory of the book is relatively simple and is explained in the second chapter. After the Soviet Union collapsed and "social violence entrepreneurs" (i.e. local warlords) rose up, they were faced with a two-stage game. Stage 1: either band together to put a puppet head of state in place in order to reap the benefits of both local rents (bribes, taxes, etc.) and outside rents (aid dollars, foreign investments, etc.) or continue to fight it out. If not enough warlords choose to band together, then a government isn't formed and those who did try to form one incur an extra "sucker cost" (love that term) as well as the costs of continued fighting. Stage 2: if a head of state is installed then warlords can choose either to support him or, if the warlord(s) believes that he will not reap enough of the benefits of local and outside rents, attempt a coup and replace the head of state. Here is where I get a little fuzzier on the details. Regardless, the theory flows quite easily from one stage to the next. In the following chapters Mr. Driscoll draws from his extensive interviews with former militiamen and warlords in Georgia (the nation, not the state) and Tajikistan to show how they played this game out in real life in the 1990s. The last chapter Mr. Driscoll reserves for policy implications and applies it to the current crisis in Ukraine, which no one who is interested in the region or foreign policy in general should miss. What makes this book better than most others coming out of academia is that it doesn't need a bunch of mathematical proofs to get its point across, although it does have some of that. His extensive interviews gathered over years in these two countries allow Mr. Driscoll to tell a fascinating story of state collapse and reconstitution. His chapter on how the first Post-Soviet heads of state in Georgia and Tajikistan "coup proofed" their regimes is particularly interesting. The implications for policymakers, particularly from the liberal side of the aisle, is intriguing and does make you question whether knowing that some foreign aid, democracy-promotion dollars, and foreign investment will be used in the short term for paying off militias is worth the potential long term benefit of a more stable and democratic nation as happened in Georgia. I highly recommend this book to everyone interested in the region, comparative political science, and/or foreign policy.

This isn't foolproof, of course, but I'm finding their math questions challenging (in a good way - I'm waaay out of practice) and their vocab sections seemed to have good tips too (I feel a bit more comfortable with vocab right off the bat). Lots of practice questions, good explanations and shortcuts. I like it.
My big issue is that I'm finding mistakes (like WRONG answers to questions) and misprints all through the book. But what's even more frustrating is trying to Google "Princeton Review Cracking the GRE errata" and coming up with NOTHING. I get it, nobody's perfect, but at least admit you made mistakes and make it easy to find the corrections. There is NO excuse for Princeton Review not to have this info easily accessible when it could be on their website within moments of figuring out there's a problem.

Good book except where it isn't

It's a good book, but there are a couple of typos that are just REALLY annoying. I spent 30 minutes trying to figure out why I kept getting the wrong answer on a drill (Drill 8, page 179), and then I realized that the answer key has the question written differently than the question. Frustrating!

Also, it's clear that the typo is in the question, since the answer choices don't make sense. The answer key has the question written correctly.
