You have to start with the purpose of this little ...

You have to start with the purpose of this little book; it is designed to take very bright young people at the receiving end of a fire hose and provide them with the means to drink without drowning. In that goal, High Yield Neuroanatomy does the job well. Students preparing for Step 1 of USMLE will know neuroanatomy well enough if they think of High Yield as an illustrated outline and use it that way.

I have mentioned that in the review of the BRS edition of neuroanatomy ! But seems not all people read or take into account what reviewers mention!!! The older edtion doesn't have this MISTAKE !

This is a great REVIEW book for USMLE. If your anatomy foundation isnt strong, I suggest watching or purchasing Kaplan Classroom anywhere videos. But the pictures in this book are great!

I Can Do It Too

I recently received a copy of this handbook as a gift, and I want to share my impressions of it because I think it is a very valuable tool for first time writers. I have always wanted to write a short story or memoir but found the challenge too daunting. So I confined myself to poetry which has different challenges.
Unleashing The Power To Write Your Own Life Story is a very readable and clear series of instructions with wonderful examples provided by the author. He writes in an engaging style, and the reader really does believe "I can do it".
I highly recommend this book for all would-be writers stuck before they even begin to put a thought down on paper.

I would strongly recommend this book to all those considering writing their life story. It breaks down the process with precise instructions. It is inspirational and motivating. The author wisely gives helpful trouble shooting tips such as a "memory jogger" list and other techniques to overcome writers block. He also includes other valuable aspects that one might not consider (i.e.: copyrights for clip art/photos). It is well written and easy to read/utilize. Helpful tool that is a must for anyone considering writing their life story.

About the Author
Carol H Rounds is lecturer in Hungarian and has been teaching at Columbia University since 1988. Previous titles include Hungarian:An Essential Grammar, another in the Routledge language series.

Erika Sólyom, an NYU graduate, is a sociolinguist and she has been teaching Hungarian as a Foreign Language at Eotvos Lorand University and Corvinus University of Budapest. She is also the director of the American Corner Budapest at Corvinus.

The Best Available Resource

Perhaps the best thing about Colloquial Hungarian, what sets it apart from other available resources, is that it makes learning Hungarian--a task that, at first, feels like climbing mount improbable--approachable and fun. I am a second-year Hungarian student who this summer had the opportunity to study in Budapest with Erika Solyom. Before finding the book (and Professor Solyom), I bounced through a variety of materials: an old US State Department coursebook, a few grammars, a Teach Yourself course, and an audio course from Pimmsler. Everything I tried seemed to be missing something fundamental. The grammars excluded, all the more pedagogically-oriented materials I tried were either too analytic, grounded in a rote militaristic logic of drills and tiring repetition, or too soft, focused only on building the capacity to speak at a basic, I-just-landed-and-can-greet-the-customs-officer level. I'm not saying these materials weren't helpful. They were, each in their own way. But none succeeded in bringing together so seamlessly all the requisite components of language learning as Colloquial Hungarian. For me, finding the book changed everything.

Suddenly, learning Hungarian not only seemed attainable, it was fun. The book's bedrock is a story, unfolded through dialogues (available on CD and excellent) and centered in the lives of a handful of colorful characters that, I admit, I grew quite attached to. I think this is something unique in a language-learning book. Is it corny, funny, cute? Maybe so. But it works wonderfully to get you more invested in the material; at least it did for me. The grammar unfolds in a manageable, brick-by-brick way, and it encourages you to focus on one thing at a time, to seek out patterns, and to build and build at a slow pace that assures you won't get burned out, feel hopeless, or give up altogether.

Learning Hungarian is already hard. Why make it harder? If you want a book that empowers you as a language learner, that leaves you feeling like you can do this, like you ARE doing this, buy Colloquial Hungarian. Believe me, I've tried many others, and this is hands down the best.

Brings an impossible language within reach.

I studied from Erika Solyom's book while studying in Budapest, Hungary. For me, learning the Hungarian language seemed to be a very intimidating task, but Colloquial Hungarian made the process much easier, even fun. The characters, dialogues, cultural items and poetry included in the book expose the reader to Hungarian culture which helped me have a deeper understanding of the Hungarian lanuage. I strongly recommend this book.

Great Starter

The first two things everybody asked me when I told them I was going to be studying in Budapest for a semester were "Wait, are you going to actually LEARN Hungarian?" and "Isn't that one of the hardest languages ever?"
After taking the class for just one semester and having the opportunity to learn from this book in particular, I can say that it was a lot easier than I imagined. As Markus said, each new section builds on the last, which really helps to solifidy your base knowledge with each new unit. While I would change the order just slightly (putting things like numbers closer to the beginning), I can definitely say that without this book (and the great instruction that went along with it), I would have been lost for the entire semester. Unlike other books I've seen for the language, this one actually shows you the logic behind a lot of the grammar - something that comes in handy when you encounter a new word. At only half-way through the book, you begin to be able to distinguish what parts of speech foreign words belong to and even be able to somewhat discern what the basic idea of the text is.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone trying to learn Hungarian.

Amazing Method Book For Little Singers! You Won't Regret Buying It!

This is a great book to teach little kids to match pitch and learn to read music. Every lesson is just at their level and fun so they like to learn! I highly suggest this book for those teaching private or group lessons or beginning choirs. This is the Very Young Beginner Series so it's geared toward ages 3-7. This also follows the Kolday method quite a bit, has extra songs in the back, a page for the student to color at home or in the classroom that goes along with the story the teacher or parent can help the student read and of course the song. There are also lessons in the back for the teacher! Oh, and recordings of the main songs (vocal track amd accompaniment) online! So awesome! I'm using this meathod book to teach a 3 1/2 year old who really seems to like it and is advancing, I suggest it to anyone who wants to know about it and I'll use this soon with my toddler (as soon as he can speak would probably be best). Don't forget to start off with Level A! Enjoy!

Great Hapi Resource

Developing a hapi Edge is written by several of the maintainers of the Hapi ecosystem. This book goes into great detail about everything from scaffolding to writing and running tests. This book will help you get started quickly with Hapi, from where the tutorials online leave off. The best part is that it's fairly current (considering Hapi has had several major version releases coinciding with the IO.js + Joyent merger => Node v4.x => Node 5.x), and covers approaches that work with the current version of Hapi.

I've worked with several of the authors, so I'm a little biased, but I would recommend this book to both beginners and those familiar with Hapi alike. It's a great primer, but it goes into depth on several of the core modules, as well as ancillary libraries, and it gives great examples of patterns to use, as well as recommendations for production environments.

The detractor of this book is the fact that it's written by several distinct authors, and therefore it can sometimes be difficult to follow the thought processes from chapter to chapter.

A Narrative about a website, not an instructional volume about a framework

This is a very difficult read. I'm not a beginner... with JavaScript or programming. I decided to buy this book because the hapi website is very lean on helpful information for common use patterns, and the api docs, which don't have any accompanying code examples with them. This is what makes what could be a simple, fun, happy, and joyous bit of software, difficult to work with.

The book fares no better. It writes several pages of code, and you're well into chapter 3, before any of the authors mention the name of the file you're saving the following bit of code in. I don't know how anyone would be expected to follow along on their own. The only way to do so, is to have the github repo side-by-side, and find the file with the code being referenced.

Honestly, the book feels more like a dictation of how hapi-plugins.com was built, and feels very little like a book on hapi. What I mean to say is, instead of saying "let's write a book about hapi", and then developing a subject to fit the different concepts you need to convey, it feels like the authors decided to write a narrative about the server side code of a website after they had built it.

Comprehensive Intro to hapi

Before coming across this book, I went through a hapi api tutorial and didn't quite understand what made hapi different from other frameworks like express. This book gives a great overview of what hapi has to offer, the ins and outs, and tools/plugins/libraries available. The book and examples are easy to follow even for someone relatively new to nodejs. Writing tests is usually my least favorite thing to do, but after reading the debugging and testing sections I'm actually looking forward to writing tests for my future hapi projects. You might now agree 100% with the code styling but definitely take a look at https://github.com/hapijs/contrib/blob/master/Style.md.

Don't bother - a ripoff even at $3

Stay away, there is just basic content on stacks, queues, and linked lists, and then the book abruptly ends. I am a little suspicious of all of the positive reviews, they seems to be fake.

Very excellent book! It explains in detail most of data structures that are included on it. I recommend it for beginners that want to introduce themselves into algorithms. Really worth recommending!

This is well supported

I have already read several books on algorithms of varying complexity, and this is hands down the best beginning level book. I had to get this book because i needed something to guide me when i start my C++ programming course. In this book you'll learn the more important data structures without the heavy mathematics many algorithm and data structure books torture readers with. The book is written in very accessible language and the applets really help the inexperienced see the algorithms. This is well supported with examples in C++, inside the book and with his web support. There are questions at the end of each chapter and answers are provided. This book is not going to explain the Collection classes. What this book will do is help you get a deeper understanding of what data structures are, how they work, and what performance sacrifices must be made in order to achieve better overall performance. Really much needed book.

Following her decision to become a writer when she grows up, Poppy takes a significant step in the right direction—after a few false starts. Poppy is blithely positive that the perfunctory career declaration she's produced for a writing assignment will be selected for a class read-aloud. She is therefore deeply miffed when her methodical friend Lavender's "Why I Want to Be a Brain Surgeon" is chosen instead. When, next time, Lavender's "My Wish for World Peace" gets the nod over Poppy's shallow, self-absorbed effort, her fury is so open that she lands a stint in the Chill-Out Chair. Third time's the charm though, as for the assigned topic "How to Do Something," a repentant Poppy tallies up her own rude behavior in a paper titled "How to Get in Trouble." This ingenious apology not only earns applause from the class, but mends fences with Lavender too. Poppy, a flop-eared bunny, leads a cast of small, individualized animals drawn with an expressive delicacy reminiscent of Kevin Henkes' figures. Also, along with sly notes like Poppy's bright visions of future school visits and celebrity-autograph sessions, Bonnet depicts the writer-to-be in authentic throes of composition—breaking a pencil, throwing her notebook across the room, and weeping with frustration before finally buckling down. Self-confidence is not all it’s cracked up to be, as we learn from ebullient little Poppy in Susan Eaddy’s Poppy’s Best Paper, charmingly illustrated by Rosalinde Bonnet.
When Poppy’s teacher, Mrs. Rose, asks the class to write about what they want to be when they grow up, Poppy’s elated. She wants to be a writer. She dashes off a few quick lines and deems her paper ‘‘pretty much perfect.” But Mrs. Rose doesn’t read Poppy’s essay. She reads her friend Lavender’s paper about becoming a brain surgeon. Poppy takes so many breaks while writing her next assignment that she has to finish it on the bus. When Lavender’s essay on world peace wins, Poppy can’t handle the injustice. She ends up in the Chill-Out chair and, after some rude behavior at home, is sent to her room.
After a good cry and several broken pencils, Poppy has an idea. This time she writes a sentence and takes time to fix it. She doesn’t stop to play with her dog or call Lavender. She focuses. This time, when Mrs. Rose prepares to read the best paper on “How to Do Something,” Poppy is not overly confident. She sits very still.
Poppy’s paper is read aloud! She’s written “How to Get in Trouble,” a topic that plays to her strengths. Bonnet’s lively drawings are endearing and keep the story moving. Thumbs-up to clay artist Susan Eaddy on her debut picture book. She’s created a character readers will gladly visit again and again.

When her mother framed the rooster she drew in kindergarten, Susan Eaddy decided she wanted to be a verrrry famous artist when she grew up. She now sculpts clay into illustrations for magazines and children's books, including My Love for You Is the Sun (Little Bahalia) and Papa Fish's Lullaby (Cooper Square). Poppy's Best Paper is the first book she has written.

When Rosalinde Bonnet was little, she couldn't decide if she wanted to be an artist, an illustrator, or a zoologist. Now she writes and illustrates children's books that often feature animals—like Poppy! She is the illustrator of The Art Collector and The Little Red Elf, and the author and illustrator of several picture books available in France, Belgium, and the United Kingdom.

Poppy's Best Paper

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I know you’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but as soon as I saw Poppy’s Best Paper, I knew that my three girls would love it. This delightful picture book was written by Susan Eaddy and illustrated by Rosilande Bonnet.

Poppy is an enthusiastic little rabbit full of joie de vivre. Some might also call her “spirited”. Poppy wants to be a writer when she grows up, so when her class receives an assignment to write about what they want to be when they grow up, Poppy doesn’t spend a lot of time on her paper, but she is sure that she is going to be the one whose paper is read aloud by the teacher. When she isn’t picked, she huffs and doesn’t congratulate her best friend, whose paper was the one read aloud. When this scenario is repeated the next day, Poppy throws a tantrum and continues to misbehave at home. Can she pull herself and write the perfect paper?

My girls really enjoyed this book, and so did I. My second grader, in particular, found this book easy to relate to. She spent the school year writing various types of essays, and understood the importance of always doing your best. At the beginning of the book, Poppy procrastinates and rushes to finish her essays. One of the things that I always tell my daughters is that when it comes to schoolwork, being the fastest usually doesn’t make you the best. Poppy demonstrates this when she takes her time and avoids calling her friend or repeatedly sharpening her pencil.

My younger girls are not writing papers in school yet, but they could appreciate the other big lesson in this book: the importance of making amends. Poppy behaves rudely in class, she is rude at home (the girls loved when Poppy called her brother “Scraggle Tail”), and worst of all, she is rude to her best friend. Poppy is truly sorry for her behavior, and this is reflected in her final essay. Everyone makes mistakes, but it’s important to apologize.

The illustrations are adorable. Poppy is a cute little rabbit, and her best friend Lavender is a fox. One of my twins loves foxes, so she was very happy to see Lavender, even if she wasn’t the main character. The illustrations rendered in a fairly simple manner, but this fits well with the sweet story. There are a lot of details in the background, and my girls enjoyed pointing out the things they saw.

I would absolutely recommend Poppy’s Best Paper. This story has broad appeal- older preschoolers will enjoy it, but children in elementary school can relate to writing papers. There are lessons to be learned, and Poppy is a refreshing young heroine; I know my girls and I would love to see more of her adventures!

Great for writing classes

The idea of being a writer is great. You dream of people fawning over your words. Being famous for your writing seems only a step away. Then you actually have to put pencil to paper. Poppy is in love with the idea of being a writer. When Mrs. Rose announces she will choose someone's paper to read aloud in class, Poppy is sure she will be the one. Nobody can match her enthusiasm. Arriving home that afternoon, Poppy finds her notebook, sharpens her pencils, and gets ready to write. She writes three sentences and then calls her classmate Lavender to announce that she has written the best paper. Lavender thinks she should write more. Poppy goes back and writes one more sentence. She is certain that she is on the way to fame and fortune. Not impressed with four sentences, Mrs. Rose picks Lavender's paper. Poppy seethes with jealousy. With the next topic announced, Poppy goes back home and writes two sentences with lots of breaks in between. On the bus the next morning, Poppy scribbles an ending and is sure she will be chosen. Stunningly, Mrs. Rose does not pick her. Poppy complains and kicks a desk. Even though some famous authors have been enfants terrible, it doesn't work for Poppy. She ends up in the Chill Out Chair (I have one of these in my classroom!). More tantrums follow at home. Exiled to her room and fresh out of tears, Poppy has an idea for her How To paper topic. This time, she focuses and doesn't take a break. Very different results follow the next day at school.

This book is terrific! It's a great way to share good writing habits with your students. I also appreciate how Poppy is a realistic character. How many of us have wanted to throw a tantrum when writing something? Not me of course, but you might have experienced this. Writing is hard work, but if you buckle down, something good might happen. In addition, the illustrations in Poppy are adorable. You can't go wrong with rabbits wearing polka dots. K-2 classes will connect and sympathize with Poppy.

Lovely characters, high interest factor and a perfect message for grades 1-3

SUMMARY: Poppy has decided she wants to be a writer when she grows up. Her teacher assigns a writing assignment. Poppy thinks her paper will be chosen as the best because she is a writer. But her friend is chosen instead. Another paper is assigned. But Poppy is easily distracted and does not write as much as she could. She is again not chosen. Now she is angry and grumpy. After being sent to her room for her grumpy behavior, she gets an idea for her next paper. Instead of allowing herself to be distracted, she writes until she is finished. Finally, Poppy has written her best paper ever.

ILLUSTRATIONS: The illustrations were created in mixed media. They are adorable, colorful, lighthearted, have interesting details and a touch of whimsy.

REVIEW: I very much enjoyed this story. Things did not come easily for Poppy. She discovered that she had to work hard for her success. Just calling herself a writer did not make the work happen. Then she turned a temper tantrum of frustration into something productive. If I were there in person, I would say, "You go girl!" This book has lovely characters, a perfect message, and a high interest factor that kids will love. I would love to see Poppy turned into a series.

Great Book

I was skeptical at first to purchase yet another book on Hive or Hadoop. I have been looking to get into Hadoop and BigData for a while now. Many books talk on the general stuff...but few provide details and actual examples. THis book focuses only on Hive. The author made it general enough, but also provided some specific details that were invaluable. I especially liked the Chapter on Hive Optimization techniques. Definitely a no-brainer. I highly recommend for anyone looking to learn about hive on a high level. There are also specific technical details in there for those who write code. Great book.

I bought this book. This book is more than excellent especially for the beginners. The thing I liked most is the length of the chapter is very small and the explanation of the writer is very clear and in easy language. Moreover, in all chapters, have very useful and
relevant resource links to use for further study.

Worth the money, but disregard the title's promise

I wouldn't call this the "Ultimate Guide" to anything, but more like someone's personal notes on using Hive, which you can read through in 15 minutes and if you pick one or two things that you didn't know about, it'll be worth the $1 that you paid for it - which it was for me, but 2 stars for the scammy title.
