Great Book

I was skeptical at first to purchase yet another book on Hive or Hadoop. I have been looking to get into Hadoop and BigData for a while now. Many books talk on the general stuff...but few provide details and actual examples. THis book focuses only on Hive. The author made it general enough, but also provided some specific details that were invaluable. I especially liked the Chapter on Hive Optimization techniques. Definitely a no-brainer. I highly recommend for anyone looking to learn about hive on a high level. There are also specific technical details in there for those who write code. Great book.

I bought this book. This book is more than excellent especially for the beginners. The thing I liked most is the length of the chapter is very small and the explanation of the writer is very clear and in easy language. Moreover, in all chapters, have very useful and
relevant resource links to use for further study.

Worth the money, but disregard the title's promise

I wouldn't call this the "Ultimate Guide" to anything, but more like someone's personal notes on using Hive, which you can read through in 15 minutes and if you pick one or two things that you didn't know about, it'll be worth the $1 that you paid for it - which it was for me, but 2 stars for the scammy title.
