About the Author
Brian P. Janiskee received his Ph.D. from Michigan State University and is professor and chair of the Department of Political Science at California State University, San Bernardino, where he is also a faculty member in the national security studies program. He has published several articles and books on such topics as special districts, crime policy, presidential elections, American colonial local government, and national security.

Ken Masugi received his Ph.D. from the New School for Social Research and teaches for Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Advanced Studies in American Government in Washington, DC. He is editor of Interpreting Tocqueville's "Democracy in America" (described in the American Political Science Review as representing a "revolution in Tocqueville scholarship") and coeditor of four other books on modern and American political thought. A Senior Fellow of the Claremont Institute, Masugi is currently completing a monograph on Democracy in America.

Aurobindo Sarkar is a consulting CTO at BYOF Studios. With a career spanning 22 plus years, he has consulted at some of the leading organizations in the U.S., the UK, and Canada. He specializes in Software as a Service product development, cloud computing, cloud economics, big data analytics, Internet of Things (IoT) platforms, and web-scale architectures. His domain expertise runs across financial services, media, mobile gaming, public and automotive sectors. Aurobindo has been actively working with technology start-ups for over 5 years now. As a member of the top leadership team at various start-ups, he has mentored several founders and CxOs, provided technology advisory services, developed cloud strategies, drawn up product roadmaps, and set up large engineering teams. Aurobindo has an MS (Computer Science) from New York University, M.Tech (Management) from Indian Institute of Science, and B.Tech (Engineering) from IIT Delhi.

Amit Shah

Amit Shah has a bachelor's degree in electronics. He is a senior manager at Western Outdoor Interactive. He has been programming since the early '80s with the first wave of personal computing―initially as a hobbyist and then as a professional. His areas of interest include embedded systems, Internet of Things (IoT), analog and digital hardware design, systems programming, cloud computing, and enterprise architecture. And yet another introduction to some of the basic services offered by AWS

After almost 10 years since the EC2 service was first launched, Amazon still securely controls the IaaS market, despite the number of contenders significantly increased since. This dominance resulted in legions of start-up entering the PaaS market, building their services on top of AWS, as well as in an abundance of blogs and books dedicated to it. Part of this literature covers a specific service and thus targets a small niche; other parts give instead an overview of the services or a good part of them. Learning AWS belongs in the latter category: it targets DevOps and Cloud Architects with little or no experience with the AWS and aims to teach them about the basic features of the key services, so that they can easily get started. Yea, yet another introduction to some of the services of the Amazon Web Services.

Writing a book that introduces the reader to the whole Amazon ecosystem is hard. Not because the services are hard to understand and/or their features keps secret. On the contrary, the difficulty comes from the fact that, on the one hand Amazon provides an excellent and very detailed documentation, which they often update; on the other hand, the internet and the bookstores are invaded by a horde of articles and books, respectively, that do the same. So, while the task per se is easy, it is instead very hard to provide the reader with value that make the purchase worth it.

The very first thing that grasps the attention of the enthusiast reading the book is the presence of two kinds of images: some are very detailed and colorful, while others are very spartan and all in black and white. The former are screenshots taken from Amazon (not sure if from an ad hoc session or from the official documentation itself), while the latter are made by the author. This discrepancy definitely lowers the overall quality of the text. Plus, let’s be honest: black and white is good for Casablanca. In 2015 I do expect high quality colorful images and schemas. Mainly from a book that goes for 49.99.

Up to chapter 3, the reader is slowly taken through the steps required to launch both an EC2 and an RDS instances, and a security group. Slowly here means that the reader, who is supposed to be a DevOps or a Cloud Architect, is presented with 3 pages plenty of images to teach him how to register to the AWS services, just like filling a form was that hard. The book is agreeable and friendly to read, no doubts. Still, we are told what we have been told over and over in these long 9 years: don’t store sessions on the EC2 instances; create stateless applications so that they scale out; avoid single point of failures. Any Cloud Architect should know this already, despite being completely new to the Amazon Web Services.

Starting with chapter 4 the discussion moves to scalability. Again, lots of nice screenshots and black and white schemas that get DevOps, with an (over) friendly step-by-step approach, through setting up other basic services, such as ELB. This goes on until the very back cover. Another disturbing things that repeats through the book is that each and every option of every service introduced by the author is listed. Mind it, listed, not explained. Just like a reference.

Wrapping it all up, this book is not worth the purchase. It does not provide anything that Amazon does not freely give to any beginner already, including the reference to each and every option of their services. Official documentation apart, the bookstores are plenty of better and more affordable alternatives.

For expert users who are however new to cloud services

This book covers a lot of topics related to Amazon Web Services (AWS) - the leading cloud services: setting up an own AWS account, a high-level overview of the main AWS components, criteria for designing cloud applications, AWS cost model, application development environment, solutions for scalability, high availability, fault tolerance, disaster recovery, security, and deployment to live production. Due to so many topics and practical recommendations, this book could serve as a quick guide for expert users who are however new to cloud-based services. Despite the fact that many topics are not described in depth, it is still useful to have all of them under the same cover.

the chapters on optimization and security will be a great resource for any AWS user

I'll preface this review by stating that I have used AWS in the distant past, but I needed to find a resource to get me up to speed on all of the new service offerings. This book did just that. The overview of the service offerings in the early chapters were clear and concise. In my opinion, the chapters on optimization and security will be a great resource for any AWS user. I like the step-by-step setup instructions for the different services. They were clearly written and easy to follow. Learning AWS will definitely become one of my go to resources.

Pet Rescue Club: The Lonely Pony is about a girl named Lolly, and she lives on a farm. These people the Valentines can`t handle this pony anymore. So then Lolly bought the pony from them. The pet rescue club helps animals and they help Lola the pony get home, but every time Lola the pony sees a patch of grass she stops walking and kneels down to eat. Do you want to know what happens at the end? Read the book to find out.
My favorite parts are about when the boy Zach finds Lola and Lolly wants to buy her. I like this part because the pony needs help and she`s happy because she got the help she needs. I also like the part when Lolly`s responsible by taking one pet at a time. My favorite character is Lola because she`s little and I want her.
I recommend this book for girls. I think this is not for kindergarteners or first graders. I think it is for 7 year olds and older. Now go have some pony fun!

Diana Cruchley's work and ideas are magically. I highly recommend this book and also attending any of her workshops if you get a chance. I was amazed by the sudden difference in a large number of my student's writing. I started with a group of students who were producing a minimal amount of writing to passionately writing for the 20 minutes and increasing the amount each time.

Too Many Errors

This is a good book to learn the subject matter IF you're willing to put up with all the bad references.

At some point, the examples used were heavily modified and a lot of the references were not updated throughout the instructional text or the review and quiz sections.

This doesn't stop the book from being useful, but it does make it frustrating to work with and I'll think twice before buying another book from this publisher.

Lest anyone (else) misunderstand the phrase "These same principles can be applied to any endogamous population other than Ashkenazi Jews, including..." in Amazon's description, the book discusses Ashkenazi Jews - my own family. It is also relevant to other endogamous populations.

Breaking through the bricks

If you are exploring your family genealogy with the help of genetics, Israel Pickholtz offers inspiration, guidance, and hope. He has recruited dozens of members of his extended family to submit their check scrapings for DNA testing, and has used the results to map out relationships and fill in holes in the tree. Endogamous populations, including descendants of Colonials and Ashkenazi Jews, face particular challenges in the world of genetic genealogy, as everyone tends to be related several different ways. Israel has pioneered different techniques for approaching these relationships, and he makes extensive use of charts and other illustrations to document the varioius paths he has pursued.

Although the book begins with a Chapter Zero entitled "DNA Testing 101" this is a book best suited for someone who has some familiarity with genetic genealogy. For genetic genealogists who have gotten through the initial stages of chromosome comparisons and want to tackle the bigger challenges, this is an invaluable resource.

Nitish Misra

Nitish Misra wanted a career in the game industry ever since he was a child. In late 2014, he was one step closer to realizing that dream after he completed his BA (Hons) in game design and production management from Abertay University. He is currently working in a start-up based in New Delhi, designing games on mobiles and working toward breaking into the game industry. His areas of interest include concept development, systems design, and level design. With 3 plus years of experience in Unreal Development Kit, Unreal Engine 4 was the most logical go-to option for him, and he has been using it for the past 1 year, experimenting with the various features offered by UE4, to see what can be achieved using it.

Good jumpstart for an aspiring game developer

As a professional game developer and experienced instructor I know quite well how hard it is to teach modern game development. Although we have several game engines available and we do not have to program everything from scratch (unless we want to), it is still quite daunting task to learn actual game development. Modern game editors like Unity 3D, Unreal Engine, Cocos etc. are still complex development environments with numerous features, functions and plug ins. Biggest problem for total novice is where he should begin and what path to proceed.

However, I found this book to be an excellent guide for a total novice, a person who is interested in developing games, but has no experience in digital development and very limited programming experience (or none whatsoever). The reader is guided through all necessary basic steps: obtaining all mandatory software (which is free), installation and getting familiar with editor environment. After that you proceed with basic components of a game: building scenes, objects, actors, using materials, light sources etc.

This book limits development to Unreal Blueprint scripting. This is an understandable choice, since it makes learning much more easier. And it is carefully explained that Blueprints have limitations, and for more advanced stuff you really have to use C++. A positive surprise is a chapter on Unreal Matinee which is used to create cinematics and cut scenes. After this you are guided through how to publish your game.

Although the title emphasizes Android development, this book is useful even if that is not your only target platform. I can recommend this book to a novice who wants to learn the basics of game development using Unreal Engine 4.

Essential as an starting point to develop Android Games with Unreal Engine 4

Since Unreal Engine 4 was made freely available for indie developers at the beginning of this year, I've been reading every book it is being published about the topic. I would buy "Learning Unreal Engine Android Game Development" along with "Learning Unreal Engine iOS Game Development" (Muhammad A. Moniem) to cover entirely the main technologies for mobile platforms and 2D and 3D developments. "Learning Unreal Engine Android Game Development" guides you through a tutorial about how to develop a simple 3D game and optimize it for Android. It is cleanly written and concise. It teaches you the main points of Unreal Engine and even covers one point I've been missing in other books: Matinee, the Unreal cinematic editor. The Android part is well explained including the bureaucracy to make your game published in Play Store, although for second edition I would ask an example of how to integrate some of the external services, like Google services, in your apps (achievements, leaderboards or in-app purchases) as they are mentioned like possibilities but not actually implemented in the book's example.

Excellent Book for Newbies

As an aspiring developer trying to get to grips with UE4, this book was extremely helpful. I have always loved the Unreal engine due to its popularity and simplicity and wanted a book that will teach me how to develop games for mobile devices. Learning Unreal Engine Android Game Development therefore couldn't have come at a better time for me. The book begins with an overview of the Unreal Engine and later does a good job of explaining what almost every button and menu in the editor does. After this you are ushered into developing a real game which truly tests and develops your skills on different aspects of game development. The author uses very clear and simple English that makes it easy to follow. The book also made extensive use of the engine's visual scripting system known as Blueprint. How to use the unreal engine for cutscenes in games was also touched on albeit briefly by the author. The final chapter provided insights into using unreal motion graphics (UMG)for menus as well as a guide on how to package and publish your game. If you are new to the UE4 and want to develop games for mobile devices, then look no further than this book.

Put together well

The book is fine- has the rules you need. Yeah, you could get them online but that isn't too helpful if you have an open book, closed computer exam. Has a nice confidentiality chart too. Btw, for the MPRE, just listen to the Barbri video over and over, do a ton of free MC on Barbri and Kaplan, and do 3 or 4 of the sample exams in their free books and you'll pass easily.

At this point, you can get all of the relevant code sections, which are much more easy to search and use, etc., online. The ease of use online is far better than any additional commentary you get from the book. I'd recommend saving your money.

Straightforward Rulebook

This book has all of the Professional Responsibility Standards, Rules, and Statutes you might need. The Model Rules and their comments are in the front, and state rules that differ follow. The sections are easy enough to flip through and are arranged well enough, though the comment font size might be a little small for quick scanning.

I could see this being a very useful guide to have around the office, and not just for law students in class or studying for the MPRE.
