an encyclopedia of the consumer movement
By bluerasberry
This is both a fundamental text containing original information and a contemporary update on the state of the consumer movement. Anyone who is interested in the relationship between consumer organizations, government, and the commercial sector should have this book as a reference.
This encyclopedia has these kinds of entries - consumer issues in the United States, definitions of various advocacy strategies, overviews of all the largest United States consumer organizations, and overviews of consumer activism in each of about 40 geographical regions covering most of the world. Each entry in this book would be almost impossible to find summarized anywhere else, and to have them collected all in one volume could only be a labor of love for the editors because organizing the creation of this many summaries on so many different topics obviously took an army of very dedicated contributors to produced.
This is the current world view on consumers do in response to corporate pressures in the marketplace. Although the book speaks from the perspective of consumer organizations, this is as close as the literature comes to articulating and documenting the issues which matter to individual consumers.
