A simple and stylish counting book. The familiar preschool journey from 1 through 10 is reimagined here by textile designer Foster. Each double-page spread presents a large numeral and an adjective-noun phrase on the left ("1 friendly fox, / 2 sleeping birds," and so on) and an illustration on the right. Foster makes the most of this simple design, crafting large, 1950s- and '60s-influenced illustrations that tots and adults will appreciate in equal measure. Thick black lines and eye-catching patterns make for pleasingly clean, high-contrast images that will stimulate babies' developing vision. The board book is also handsomely produced, coming with a hardcover binding and sturdy, reinforced pages. Even the most destructive little readers will have trouble tearing this one up. Another title, Jane Foster's ABC, publishes simultaneously and illustrates the letters of the alphabet in similar fashion. Both titles are stunningly simple, but Foster is able to create some truly arresting images here, making both books pleasurable repeat reads. Love this!

I happened upon this book in the library the other day and I love it. My son is a little over 2 and we're working on multi-syllabic phrases and strengthening more difficult sounds and this is perfect for that, "One Friendly Fox." The pictures are bold and adorable, the book is sturdy and well made. After 2 days of reading it to him, he reads it to us, flawlessly. It is exactly the type of counting book I was looking for, and I will be giving this as gifts.

Seriously the best 123 book out there

Seriously the best 123 book out there!!! I already love Jane Foster as a designer, so when we found this book (as well as her ABC book, which is also fabulous!) on a recent trip to London, it instantly became my then 10 month old's favorite book! As soon as we returned to the US I pre-ordered the (yet to be released in the US) ABC book as well. Even now, three months later, both the 123 and ABC books are my little one's go to favorite books (and mine). I even had to order a second 123 book as the first one was loved a little too much. The illustrations are beautiful and clean, and will appeal to both babes and adults. It is a refreshingly modern twist to your classic 123/ABC book. I can't recommend these books highly enough!!!

Beautiful book and perfect for babies

Beautiful book and perfect for babies. The bright, high contrast illustrations are perfect for this age. Unfortunately, my book has a defect. The very top of the spine is about 2 cm too short and the book's "guts" are exposed. Usually I would return it, but I have had enough babies to know sooner or later the spine will get dented or eaten. It's not too big a deal. If I was giving it as a gift, I would send it back. It's a starter book for my grandson's first library at grandma's house! (He'll have one at home, too.) I look forward to reading this with him.
